Abstract

The paper deals with Gnostic motives in Art and Humanities. The split between intellectual and real worlds unites the semiotics of Yuri Lotman, science fiction by Stanisɫaw Lem, and the movies by the Wachowskis. In modern “Gnostic” tradition, the Good Creator (Demiurge of Plato and Architect of Philo) becomes the Evil God or Devil a Liar. Instead of the true world of ideas, he creates the false world of the Matrix. He rules the Humankind with the help of ruse and deception. The split and falsity result in the muteness of the Demiurge and the silence of a human being. Both the thinkers and the artists strive for the wholeness and truth of the intellectual life.
