Abstract

Almost 100 years ago, the German philosopher M. Scheler wrote about sports that it is unlikely that some global social phenomenon deserves social and psychological study to the extent that sport deserves it. Sport has acquired an immeasurable scale and social significance, but so far not much attention has been paid to the social aspect of sport. American historian, sociologist and philosopher of sports A. Guttmann in the late 1970s commented on these words of the German philosopher as follows: after half a century, sport is still one of the most controversial and least studied phenomena of our time. Unfortunately, after another 50 years, little has changed in our understanding of sports.

The article reveals the current state and prospects of development of sports science. The article shows the synthesizing role of philosophy in the study of sports. To understand the features of sport as a socio-cultural phenomenon, the article applies the anthropic principle, first developed in natural science. It is shown that the anthropic principle is not only clarifying important sports issues, but also develops the anthropic principle as the principle of the observer.
