Abstract
This is a last part of the series of articles on Portuguese expansion in North America during the era of Great Discoveries. The article is devoted to the events of the 1520s as well as to the first attempt to create a permanent Portuguese settlement on the territory of present day Canadian Atlantic Provinces. Special attention is given to expeditions and activity of Joao Fagundes who was of one of the leading organizers of this enterprise. It also analyses the reasons of the failure of the Portuguese colony and the reasons of the general decrease of Portuguese colonial activity in this region.
