Abstract
The article attempts to clarify the role of Soviet diplomacy in reaching the arrangement on quadrilateral negotiations on West Berlin and to show what tasks it set itself in these negotiations. The chronological scope of this article - March 1969 - March 1970, the period from the completion of the "Third Berlin crisis" to the start of negotiations between representatives of the USSR, the US, Britain and France on the West Berlin March 26, 1970. The author proves that the beginning of the quadrilateral negotiations on West Berlin was a notable step forward towards the consolidation of peace in Europe.
