- Abstract
- E. Gierek from December, 1970 till September, 1980 was the fi rst secretary of the Polish incorporated workers party. He tried to accelerate social and economic development of the country at the expense of the western credits. As a result of the admitted errors in social economic policy the population standard of life has decreased, in economy stagnation was observed, in a society the discontent with a spent policy accrued. The new public confl ict became inevitable, and Gierek was necessary to leave the post.
