- Abstract
- 2009 is the anniversary year for one of the most famous and influential military-political alliances - the North Atlantic Bloc. Over the 60 years of its existence, humanity has had many reasons to make sure that the declarations of the participating States, which declared in 1949 that they were joining their efforts "for collective defense, the preservation of peace and security", are true. The author has his own point of view on this matter. Owing to the recent official duties of the head existed in the Russian defense Ministry's Main Directorate for international military cooperation - I have had the opportunity to follow many processes occurring in the Alliance, to interact closely with colleagues from Germany, UK, USA, Greece and other NATO countries together with them to lay the Foundation of bilateral relations in the framework established in 1997-Russia Council NATO. Matching personal experience with knowledge of the history of NATO, the practice of its activities with the permanent representations of its founders on the transformation of the Alliance in "instrument of international security", many years, trying in vain to find any evidence.
