Abstract

The article is devoted to the analysis of the stages of the U.S. built new policy towards to Ukraine in the period from 2014 to 2019. After the victory of Euromaidan, which was actively supported by Washington, the United States revised its foreign policy towards Ukraine, taking into account the onset of the Ukrainian crisis and its consequences for Russia. The new US foreign policy in relation to Ukraine was implemented in several areas: military, diplomatic, and “investment in success”. For the period from 2014 to 2019. The “Ukrainian” policy of the United States went through a series of stages, determined by the level of implementation of certain areas of Washington’s foreign policy. Moreover, while during the first two stages the USA acted rather reactively and adjusted to the actions of Russia during the Ukrainian crisis, then during the third stage the formation and consolidation of the US foreign policy towards Ukraine took place. The key goal of Washington’s foreign policy was military and diplomatic support of Kiev in its confrontation with Moscow, as well as the transformation of Ukraine into a “success story” in the post-Soviet space, which could also be used by the United States as part of building up its influence in Eastern Europe and stimulating соnfrontation between Russia and post-Soviet countries. The change of governance that took place as a result of the elections in Kiev, the defeat of Petro Poroshenko’s team and the rise to power of Vladimir Zelensky, who does not demonstrate readiness for further confrontation with Russia, can be seen as the failure of the United States to consolidate Ukraine’s tough foreign policy towards Russia.
