- Abstract
In the essay is considered the activity of the French ambassador in Russia duke de Montebello, directed on strengthening of the Franco-Russian relations which was outlined after the end of the Crimean war. On the basis of archival data, in particular reports of the ambassador in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of France, the situation in Russia in connection with Alexander’s II reforms is shown and the episode of capture of Shamil is in detail stated.
