- Abstract
- In the article the question is discussed, whether it is possible to consider World War I as total war. Allocating characteristics of "total war" and using the examples from history of Russia, Great Britain, France and Germany, the author comes to a conclusion that in 1914-1918 serious tendencies to "total war" were traced but a number of factors didn't allow them to be realized completely. World War I, from a position of the observer of the beginning of the XXI century, with the bigger basis applies for a rank not the first "total war", but the first "modern" war.
