Abstract
The article presents the political profile of Chandrika Kumaratunga who served as the President of Sri Lanka for two terms in 1994-2005. Though Kumaratunga’s rule was disputable in many respects, she not only boldly said that the Sinhala-Tamil ethnic problem needs a political solution but she has been also able to convince the majority of the country that the ethnic question warrants a political solution.
